Progressive Disclosure

Progressive disclosure is a user interface design principle where advanced features are only presented to the user upon request. It's an attempt to straddle the [[Familiarity Curve]] by hiding features from beginners while still providing them to power users. Most often this is done with a simple "advanced options" link to a more complex screen. A print dialog often has an initial page with basic options and a link to an advanced page with all available options.
