Error Messages as part of the Documentation

When someone is first learning a tool, the best documentation isn't a manual for them to read, or extensive help docs, or a guided tutorial, it's well designed error messages. People don't like reading documentation; they like to experiment. If a user boots up a new tool which is designed to pull images from a folder, and they attempt to run that tool right away, a decent error message explaining what the problem was and how to fix it will put the user on the right path much faster than a getting started doc ever could.
